Stay-at-home dads hit the big time!
Well, its finally happened, the stay-at-home dads have hit the big time! For those of you that didn’t catch it, our very own Rebel Dad, Brian Ried, was featured on the Today show talking about the surge in SAHDs over the last four years. You can read more about it on the Today show website where they’ve placed an article entitled Smart steps for potential stay-at-home dads.
Brian did a fantastic job of representing the SAHDs out there. Although I’m not one of them, I take my hats off to them.Â
That said, I would also like to see media coverage of the many more dads out there that are the ones the family has chosen to go into the workplace yet still try to be the best dads possible. The old stereotype of the working father who rarely looks at his children is extinct. Today’s fathers that work, lets call them off-to-work dads, desparately try to be involved with their kid’s lives. In fact, for many, there’s a whole lot of guilt and sadness over having to leave the family every day and missing many “firsts” (first step, smile, word, etc.).
But that’s another post. For now, I wish all the SAHDs out there much deserved praise and recognition. I hope Brian’s site holds up under the deluge of visitors he’s going to get.

Read MoreThe Definitive Daddy Blog List – Updated
My fellow fathers,
I want to let you know that I’ve updated The Definitive Daddy Blog List by adding three very good blogs by dedicated dads.
The first is Daddy Rockstar. It’s a magazine-style blog written Geoff Manning and his brother-in-law. The wonderful thing is that Geoff isn’t even a dad yet! He’s expecting May 2008 (let me know how it goes, Geoff!). Nevertheless, the blog has some great articles in it dealing with issues that all dad’s have or will have to manage at some point. It’s a great blog and I highly recommend it.
The second is The Bundlo Blog by Mark Barry. Mark started to use the Bundlo Blog as a place to share his experiences with fatherhood and entrepreneurship. He’s doing a great job with it. I’ve learned about Wateroos and Ninja Warrior by reading it. Good job Mark!
Lastly, I’ve added Goo Goo Dadda by David Newman. David is a new daddy blogger and SAHD (stay-at-home-dad for those of you that aren’t familiar with the popular letters). He’s having tremendous fun with his daughter and he’s doing a wonderful job of documenting and sharing on his blog. Please check it out.
As always, if you know of a blog that I’ve not listed, please let me know. My next challenge will be to go through the 177 blogs on the list and cull out any inactive ones. But, that may take me a while…
