Welcome to A Dad’s Life, a longstanding daddy blog focusing on providing dads with useful and relevant information. To find out more about me, the dad who writes this not-too-shabby site, please click over to the About me page.
How to use this site
People use the Internet differently. It’s all about how you prefer to consume information. I like to classify the preferences of consumption as the hardcore surfer, the road warrior or the traditionalist. How to best use this site depends on which one of these classifications you fall into.
The hardcore surfer
If you get most of your information from the Internet by surfing it and reading sites, then you’re a hardcore surfer. This is not a bad thing. In fact, most website owners love you as they get to flash all of their ads at you and count your eyeballs in the statistics they show advertisers. You’re a proven and high-valued commodity.
For you, please add A Dad’s Life to your browser’s bookmarks and subscribe to the daily email updates. Your privacy is assured and you will get one email between 5 am and 7 am Eastern time containing a list of what I’ve written the day before. Just click on the link in the email and you’ll be brought right back here to read the wonderful and informative posts. If you use Twitter, follow A Dad’s Life and you’ll be alerted immediately when a new post is up.
The road warrior
If you get most of your information by way of your mobile device (smartphone or tablet computer), then you’re a road warrior. You like staying “in the know” constantly and getting information rather than pretty website design is important to you. I’m there with you brother, this one is me.
For you, please subscribe to the daily email updates so that you get the daily posts in email format. They’ll be there waiting to be read on the train, subway or while you’re waiting for the kids’ sporting event to finish. If you use Twitter, and as a road warrior you should, please follow Adadslife. You’ll get instant updates when posts are up.
Lastly, if you are an RSSer, subscribe to the RSS feed. This is how I stay up-to-date on all the sites I follow. I use Reeder for the iPhone and it’s fantastic. However, as a road warrior, you probably already have a favorite RSS reader.
The traditionalist
If you only occasionally surf the web, don’t use Twitter and have no idea what RSS is, you’re a traditionalist. There’s nothing wrong with that. You’re probably very busy living and doing. That’s awesome.
For you, please subscribe to the daily email. Your privacy is assured and you’ll get an email from A Dad’s Life once a day with a summary of the previous day’s posts. When you do find time to sit at your computer, these emails will be there waiting for you with all their useful and interesting information.
How to find interesting and relevant posts
The site shows the three most recent posts on the front page. At the bottom of the front page is a navigation link where you can click through previous posts. This is probably the least effective way of searching A Dad’s Life but it’s certainly an interesting way. If you don’t have any particular topic you’re curious about, then by all means, go ahead and click through the previous entries for daddy information goodness.
If you have have a specific topic you’re interested in such as “shaving your back”, then use the search box on the right side of the page. Just enter your topic, shaving your back, and hit enter. You’ll be taken to a page showing all posts that were tagged with the words shaving you back. The algorithm used is based more on art than science so your mileage may vary in terms of how relevant the result will be. But, give it a try.
The most precise way to search for a more general topic is to search by topic (category in blog language). Just click on “Archive” on the right hand side of any page and you’ll be taken to a page that allows you to pull up posts by date or by a specific topic (again, it says “category”). Click on any topic and all the posts that relate to that topic will be shown.
Final favor
Well, that’s it. If you’ve made it all the way down here, thank you. You are a rarity these days. I am working hard to make this site informative and relevant for you.
I do ask a favor of you. If you use RSS, please subscribe to the A Dad’s Life RSS feed. It’s the only way I can gauge how well I’m doing. Thank you.
If you would like to contact me for any reason, please send me an email. I’ll get back to you right away.
