Traveling back

The night is starting to give way. I see light peeking from behind the mountains.  It’s cold. Very cold, for me at least. My Mac widget tells me it’s 38F.

It’s a quiet morning and I’m sitting in the dining room that has the most amazing views because two of it’s walls are windows.  I can see the mountain homes that are scattered here and there. Lights are starting to be turned on. I wonder if their dads are also getting up?

It’s been a great little get away for us.  Last night, in particular, we drove up to Highlands, NC to dine at the Sir Edwards Inn. The restaurant is called Madison’s and I highly recommend it to anyone. It’s beautiful and the food was delicious. Pricey, but worth it.

What I truly enjoyed most was sitting at the head of the table, my future brother-in-law sitting on the opposite end. My sister-in-law, a cousin, my wife and kids lined the rest of the table.  The kids behaved extremely well for a very “upper end” restaurant. Not one spilled glass!

The ladies started with a small glass of champaign and the guys settled on harder liquor- Black on the rocks, Kettle One, and a grey goose martini.  Kids had coke on the rocks, of course.  We don’t do it often but when we do, we like to splurge a little bit. It’s worth it and it makes the experience a little more special.

Today we spend the day here and then catch a 6 pm flight back home.  I’m trying to focus on the present and enjoy the last few hours we have here. It’s hard.  On the last day of the vacation, isn’t difficult to stop thinking about your trip back and everything you need to do when you get home? Kinda ruins your last day.

Anyway, it’s been wonderful and I’m thankful for all the blessings God has given me and my family.  I hope yours went as well.

Best.
